Who We Are at

Starshott Battle School

Our School

There are not any martial arts classes in Elkins or Fayetteville quite like the classes at Starshott Battle School. Formed through 20+ years of military experience overseas and a knowledge of modern combat sports, our system has been designed to optimize your fighting strength. Our leaders, Justin and Ozma Sparshott, have learned the lessons of real world conflict and leadership. They approach our striking and grappling sessions in Taekwondo, Jujutsu, and Budokon MMA just like a course. Students’ progress is tracked as they learn a variety of skills, techniques, and strategies. All this training is built for them to overcome an infinite number of variables in any situation and execute under pressure. This precise curriculum—involving different drills and games—optimizes students’ path to becoming high-level combat sports athletes. On top of our inventive system, we have special events for additional training and community bonding, including, Coaches Leadership Training, Women’s-Only Teaching, and Cosmic Rolling! Everything we have built is designed to create a great experience for students to have fun and grow both on and off the mats!

History

When Justin and Ozma Sparshott moved to Arkansas, they saw a lack of density for students to practice combat sports—or many other sports—in the area. The two believe that martial arts is just like any other field of education (Math, Science, English) and should be treated with the same rigor as any subject in school. This inspired them to provide the youth a new opportunity in Elkins and Fayetteville. In 2023, they opened Starshott Battle School and have worked to help the community in any way they can. They’ve used their experience in the military and teaching to evolve their Taekwondo and Jujutsu teaching. The system has been adapted to help students of all learning styles and mental viewpoints grow as martial artists and people. Starshott Battle School will always be a home for people to learn how to defend themselves and how to win.

Our Martial Arts Programs

All of our martial arts programs fall under our unified combat sports system. Our training revolves around grappling and striking skills in Jujutsu and Taekwondo. These lessons on top of the conditioning and endurance allow students to build up their combat sports skills. Take a look and find the best option for you and/or your child’s Elkins martial arts training.

Our Combat and Conditioning Circuit is a high-intensity class that will push you to discover new parts of your Taekwondo and Jujutsu games. Students participate in 30-second to 5-minute rounds based around martial-arts inspired movements. This program can be crucial to winning in competitive or self-defense situations. Strength, endurance, and sparring reps will help you prepare for more unique situations and help you discover new strengths.

This is what we call the “Launchie Crew.” Everything done in this program is about introducing critical thinking and instinctive movements for toddlers. Training is centered around gymnastics-like movements that will help them tackle obstacle courses and similar challenges. On top of that, they are told different stories and motivations to put them on the right path in martial arts and life.

Every student can use training in the foundations of martial arts—and personalized as well! Class begins with a 15-minute group conditioning cycle. Afterwards, students are broken up to work on the skills in their different rank and grade. This allows our squads to individualize training so everyone’s time is fully optimized for their personal growth and performance.

Drill and play go hand-in-hand to help students learn new skills, strategies, and techniques and apply them to real situations. Starting with drills, students are taught skill-based techniques in forms. It is similar to learning a playbook and chaining together each newly taught skill in Taekwondo or Jujutsu. Then comes play, where we put the drills into action. Students are given a problem with constraints and must find a way to apply the skills into action. This brings training full circle for students in their pursuit to excel in combat sports.

Our Adult Foundations class is run just like the Youth Foundations class. After our 15-minute conditioning sessions, students break out into groups based on their rank and grade to maximize their learning experience. You can get started and train with similarly skilled martial artists and learn at your own pace.

Just like the foundation programs, the Adult Drill and Play Class is organized in the same way as the youth version. We start with the drill portion, teaching students different techniques in combat sports. From there, they enter the “play” portion of class. Here, they’ll be faced with a problem and constraints that they must find a way to overcome with the Jujutsu and Taekwondo training they’ve gone over. This provides an all-around training experience that truly teaches combat.
